How to Write a Caption and why are Captions Important?

Image
How to Write a Caption?  When writing a caption, you want to make it short and quick but also providing context for the picture answering the who, what, when, where, why, and how. It is really important that those are answered because it helps the reader understand what's going on in the picture, who's in the picture and where it was taken place at. There are two types basic and expanded captions. Basic captions identify the people in the picture and describes the action in the photo while expanded captions includes the same information but usually with a quote and goes more into detail. To write a caption you first want to start by researching and finding out the who, what, when, where why and how of the photo. After finding this information you will than need an action lead to start your caption off followed by describing the names of the people included in the photo along with explaining the action in the photo.  Why are Captions Important?  Captions are imp...

How to Prepare for an Interview

Image
How do you Prepare for an interview?  The next topic my teacher introduced us to was Interviewing. Earlier in the school year during august we went around the campus interviewing students about what their favorite social media was and why. Now being in second semester the subject is now brought back up but this time we learn how to prepare for an interview. My teacher first started by partnering us in groups of two to interview each other. We had to ask five questions about our partner based on what they had on their all about me organizer along with taking two quotes and three facts from the interview. But as for preparation when preparing for an interview you want to make sure you take time preparing the questions. Currently I am working on an assignment where I have to come up with twenty questions to interview someone for my magazine. While coming up with the questions I have to make sure that the answers to these questions can be used in the making of my ...

The Importance of Copy

Image
Why is Copy Important?   Copy is one of the most important parts of a magazine since this is where the reader will be spending most of their time at. The class got a pre assessment on the topic to see what we knew. This assignment asked us to write an article about ourselves. She used this as an introduction to copy. Later she gave us an assignment to test our understanding as to why copy is important. She passed out picture books and told us to cover the words and try to understand the story just by observing the illustrations. When doing this assignment, I noticed that you can't really understand what the author needs you to without having copy. Copy is the main part of a magazine since it is what draws in the reader and entertains them. Without this the reader will be both bored and left with confusion.  Example of the pre assessment:  Example of the Notes We Took on the Steps and Tips on Making Your Co...

Designing the Table of Contents

Image
Example of a Mock Table of Contents The Important Factors to Forming the Table of Contents: In semester one of media studies, we moved on to covering the steps to designing the table of contents. So, to start this new topic off my teacher went over presentations in class that consisted of material showing what's needed to make the table of contents in the magazines we read. She first started off with explaining how the table of contents has to compliment the cover design since it usually follows up after the title page. When making the table of contents it's important to make it stand out creating a good first impression on the reader. If the reader eye is not caught by skimming past the table of contents, they wouldn't want to read any further within the magazine. One thing we learned to do that can draw in a reader is including secondary coverage. This shows emphasis on main topics that will be included into the magazine allowing for the readers to get a glimpse of what t...
